is a professor and chair of the Department of Art History at the University of Regensburg. He taught at the universities of Saarbrücken and Bern, was a visiting professor at the École Pratique des Hautes Etudes (Sorbonne) in Paris, and held visiting-scholar positions at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and at the Institute of Advanced Study in Bern. He is an elected member of the Academia Europaea (London) and a member of the Elite Network of Bavaria. Since October 2013, he has served as vice president of the University of Regensburg.
