Ruth Baettig

Ruth Baettig is a visual artist working with video, photography, and performative interventions. She studied in Geneva (HEAD), Cologne (Academy of Media Arts, MA), and Paris (École des Beaux-Arts). Her work has been supported by numerous scholarships and residencies, and she has exhibited in Switzerland and internationally. Based on physical and existential experiences, her practice explores tensions between nature and urban space, and between solitude and collectivity—often through site-specific projects and subtle interventions in public space. At the same time, she reflects on the conditions and possibilities of the media she uses. The interrelation between moving image practice and artistic research forms an integral part of her work. Many of her works unfold in ongoing series, including Auch ich in Arkadien (Berlin) and Mi sono perso / I’m lost, in which reflections on presence, disorientation, and perception emerge from encounters with space. In more recent projects, she has collaborated with artists working across voice, performance, sound, and music. Alongside her artistic practice, she has been active in film education, curation, editing, and production since 2004. In 2016, she co-founded FILMEXPLORER, a platform dedicated to film as an art form. Ruth Baettig is based in Basel and Lucerne.
