is Assistant Professor of Medieval Art at Johns Hopkins University. He holds his Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the interactions between art practice and visual theory in the Middle Ages, especially the theory and practice of relief sculpture and the intersections of medieval aesthetics and the history of perspective. In 2013/2014 he is a Mellon Research Fellow at the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, University of Toronto.
