was born in Paris. After studying at the École normale supérieure she moved to the countryside to teach philosophy. As an active trade unionist, she got involved in the Spanish Civil War as an on-site supporter of the Republicans in 1936. While writing and publishing her texts, she was also employed as a factory worker and labourer. In 1942 she was forced to leave for London (via America) to avoid prosecution by the Gestapo. She found employment as an editor with »France libre«. Despite her poor health, she was planning to enrol as a nurse and to be sent to the front. She died in London in 1943.
