« Peau de Cristal » porte sur le rapport entre mutation et histoire qu’on retrouve au fil de l’œuvre de Nancy. Cet article procède d’une description des subjectivités contemporaines caractérisées, paradoxalement, par une façon d’évacuer de soi toute altérité et par une extrême fragilité. On se demande tout d’abord si l’aspect lisse de la peau de certains visages obtenu par la technique appelée « crystal skin » est de l’ordre d’une mutation anthropologique. Dans ce cas, l’aspect lisse de la peau attesterait de générations qui n’ont plus de rapport à l’histoire. On avance ensuite l’hypothèse que cet aspect lisse du visage par quoi la subjectivité s’affiche de façon allogène rend compte en fait de subjectivités hypersensibles (tel le cristal) exposées à « l’inconnu de l’avenir ». On propose alors une lecture de l’histoire qui ne résulte pas d’un progrès de la raison (Kant) mais d’une transformation de la sensibilité (Freud). On réfléchit enfin sur le rapport entre cette hypersensibilité et ce que Jonas appelle « responsabilité pour l’avenir ».

With this book, we would like to resume the passionate conversation that Jean-Luc Nancy was engaged in throughout his life, with philosophers and artists from all over the world. Now that he has passed away, it is not enough for us to simply reflect on his work: we would like to stay true to the stance to which his thought invites us, in a pluralistic and communal way. Jean-Luc Nancy takes up the old philosophical question of truth as a praxis of a with — understanding truth without any given measure or comparison as an articulation of a with. It is a thinking responsible for the world from within the world, a language that seeks to respond to the ongoing mutation of our civilization.
