wrote his »Habilitation« about Russian autobiographies of the 18th century. 1994 he became Professor for Slavic Literature at Humboldt Universität Berlin. Since 2004 he is Professor for General and Comparative Literature at Peter Szondi-Institute and at the Centre for East European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. His research focuses among other things on the history of Soviet and Post-Soviet Culture, Literature and Media, on aesthetic and epistemic contexts of Russian Avant-garde (DFG Collaborative Research Centre ›Aesthetic Experience‹ and Cluster of excellence, ›Languages of Emotion‹). He conducted many edition and translation projects about literary and artistic counterculture in the Soviet Union.
